The death of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross was God the Father’s master stroke to restore all the evil consequences of sin. Sin has become the cause of all the miseries of humanity. Consider what sin has done to God’s most precious creature and to the world. To mention a few:
-Man had become an enemy of God (Romans 5:10, Colossians 1:21)
-Man was cursed (Genesis 3:14)
-Man was doomed to die (Genesis 3:19, Romans 5:12)
-Man became sad and lonely (Job 14:1-10)
-Man’s heart became full of hate and violence (Romans 3:10-18)
-The beautiful world became the domain of Satan (2 Corinthians 4:4, Revelation 12:12)
-Man became slave to Satan and sin.
God in His infinite wisdom and love gave His Only begotten Son to destroy the works of the devil (1John 3:8) bring back man to himself, (Romans 5:10, 2 Corinthians 5:18-19), and finally to bring creation into its Edenic splendor and glory (Romans 8:19-22, Isaiah 11:6-9).
What is true of humanity is true to the individual. All of the above mentioned effect of sin to the world is true to you and me. But thanks be to God for giving His only begotten Son to die for you and me.
So that we were because of sin will all be done away with through His death on the cross. We who have believed in Him are new creatures: old things have passed away, behold all things are become new.
– 2 Corinthians 5:17
When He cried, “it is finished”, at the height of His sufferings on the cross, full salvation from all the evil results of sin has been completed. From that moment one man can be saved from sin by grace: the unmerited favor of God. Salvation now can be given as a gift. The richest and poorest, the most moral and immoral, the most learned and the most ignorant, the most civil and the most barbaric can be saved in the same glorious way: by grace through faith in Christ, the gift of God.
We celebrate the death of the only begotten Son of God, with joy. If ever there is sorrow of heart, it is with the knowledge that we have offended a loving God and have cost Him His only Son as a result. But largely we remember His death with much jubilation, because it is our independence day, our day of liberation from Satan and sin.
My friend, because He died for you now you can be saved without any cost from you, you can be one with God, and be a child of God. You can have a full life, you can live a happy abundant life.
