Yes. God speaks in our time. How does God speak? God speaks through His sent ones. In His disciples are the promises of God.
Luke 10:16 “He who hears you hears Me, he who rejects you rejects Me and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me.”
This is the promise to the disciples when they speak. You may be asking as to who are the sent ones of God.
Luke 11:49 “Therefore the wisdom of God also said, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute.”
So God has two categories of people bringing His message – the prophets and the apostles meaning if we want to know the will of God, they are the ones to whom we must listen. When do prophets speak?
Luke 16:16 “The law and the prophets were until John. Since that time the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is pressing into it.”
Therefore, the time of the law and the prophets was just until John. The John referred to in this verse is John the Baptist. After John the Baptist were the apostles. In fact, Jesus also had a title of being an apostle.
Our Lord has many offices, He has many titles. One of these is being an Apostle. What is meant by this? Being an Apostle means being a speaker of God. In the Holy Scripture, the very example is Apostle Paul.
Christ was an apostle and based on the scripture, Christ sends His disciples the way He was sent by the Father. Thus, what is an apostle? What is an ambassador? He is a speaker like an official spokesman when the president has something else to do. The ambassador is the president’s representative in another country who is to do a particular task. This position is very significant to the extent that his residence in another country becomes officially a territory of his own country. It’s what we call the extraterritorial rights. The residence of our ambassador in America is a territory of the Philippines in the same manner that the US embassy in our country is a territory of America. That’s how powerful or high being an ambassador is.
Now if an apostle is Christ’s ambassador, they are the Lord’s speakers. “He who hears you hears Me, he who rejects you rejects Me…” Does God speak in our time? Yes, for God has sent people to speak His words. Why? That is where Christianity or the church can be peaceful and orderly. If everyone would speak and claim that God has spoken to him, there’ll be a chaos. Christian sects and denominations are constantly increasing in number. Why? For they don’t believe that God’s ambassador is an apostle.
Romans 10:15 “And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, how beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!”
Is there really a living apostle in the church?
Ephesians 4:11 “And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers.”
Stated in that verse are the five gifts of administration in the church. We will notice that there are teachers. Yes, there are pastors. There are evangelists, prophets and apostles. Others insist that all the apostles are now dead but God has put an apostle in the church.
I Corinthians 12:28 “And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues.”
Because of the teachings and traditions that have been taught to us by the early initiators of religion, we have been made to believe that apostles no longer exist but the Scripture says, God has put in the church first the apostles. Why are there still teachers, pastors, evangelists and prophets? Why were they not killed? Brethren, we only have received a tradition. Tradition is terrible. That is the teaching that nullifies the worship and service of people to God. Thus, we must evade from receiving the tradition and teachings of man. According to the bible, God has appointed first the apostles in the church. Therefore, there is an apostle in the church. People die, they say, apostles are already dead. It is true that the apostles in the early times have already died but we must remember that the office of apostleship continues. A president dies but when it happens, another person is assigned to replace him as a new president for it is not practical that the living would be dominated by the dead. It is not practical that we, the living people would be under the instruction of the dead ones. That setup will just result to us being the ones followed and that the dead leaders can’t protest against whatever we may be doing wrong, but for God, there is an apostle. So the apostles are not only twelve. For a long time, we believed without any scrutiny the idea that there are only twelve apostles in the bible; consequently, we don’t know where to categorize Apostle Paul. If we are to include Apostle Paul among the twelve and Bernabe is an apostle too, it means that aside from the twelve, God continues the calling according to the need. God speaks through His apostles. Find the minister who is an apostle. He speaks the word of God.
