So you also, when you have done all that you were commanded, say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty.’”
Luke 17:10
Great finishes are as crucial as great beginnings. Whether it be in making presentations, or playing a game of tennis and even, in delivering sermons, finishing right is always important. You don’t want to fail it.
God is not only great at beginnings, but He is equally great at endings, too. Jesus, as God’s only Son, is both the author and finisher of our faith. The good work He has started in and with us, He will also complete it! (Hebrews 12:2, Philippians 1:5).
At the cross, Jesus triumphantly proclaimed the success of His mission. He shouted, “Tetelastai!” which means, “It is finished!” Thank God for the legacy of completion He’s given us as His children!
But how do you finish well like our Savior? Here are a few but very essential principles to consider.
First, never let down your guard. Proximity to the finish line or to a project deadline is usually riddled with unforeseen risks and dangers. A coffee spilling over your final draft or the copy machine suddenly malfunctioning just before you finish printing your whole research, etc. The risks are endless. Stay alert.
Second, never celebrate prematurely. Make sure that you have tied up all the loose ends first before you pop those party poppers! Success isn’t a certified success unless it has been certified. So avoid the embarrassment of the premature announcement of a victory.
Third, stay lowly and grateful. Success is intoxicating. It could make a fool out of the smartest champion. Do not entirely credit your own self for the success. Spread the recognition to others and give all the glory back to God alone (Psalm 115:1).
Finally, stay sharp and focus. Begin right away plotting your next conquest. Don’t be complacent. “Strike while the iron is hot,” as the old maxim says. Why become a mere one-hit wonder, when you can be a consistent top-notcher?
Congratulations! You have finished well!

Thank you Bishop for your reminder. Yes, we all want to finish well and not weary in well doing. I looked on the church website and could not find a church email to get you this information. I hope you don’t mind me adding this invite.
Dear Pastor, we would like to invite you and your congregation to come and join us in expectation for a great outpouring of the Holy Spirit in Portland. We along with so many others are crying out to God for that which only He can do in the Western United States. We have seen great moves of God in third world countries and its time for the USA! We chose to have a series of meetings in the Western United States, including Portland because we believe it is the direction of the Holy Spirit. We will be there for only one week March 4-8th but we recognize that it is the field that the Lord has ordained for you to labour in. If you believe that the ministry of Jesus is the same today as it was 2000 years ago, we pray that you will come and join with us as we gather in expectation for a great move of the Spirit in your area. Several church leaders and revivalists from across the United States are coming to join with us and we hope that you will come and hook up your faith and expectation with ours.
